Citrine is another type of large single crystal or twinned crystal quartz. Citrine can be pale yellow to brownish yellow to reddish orange. Reddish orange is the most valuable color for citrine. Citrine is fairly scarce in nature. Most of the citrine on the market today comes from heat treated pale amethyst. The richer the initial color of the amethyst the richer the color of the treated citrine. As with amethyst many pieces of citrine are cut into unique cuts and one of a kind sculptures. Before modern gemological testing, citrine was often confused with topaz. Citrine can be an excellent alternative for topaz and yellow sapphire.
